Former State Rep Judy Nerat Dies

The first Upper Peninsula woman ever elected to the Michigan House of Representatives has died.

Judy Nerat of Wallace served one term in the House, from 2009 to 2011, representing the 108th District.

She passed away on Sunday at the age of 64.

In 2009, Nerat was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer affecting plasma cells in the blood.

She returned to the House floor three months later after receiving treatment.

There’s no word on the cause of Nerat’s death, so there’s no word on whether or not the cancer may have returned.
