MARQUETTE — Mike Coyne may not be the mayor of Marquette anymore, but he’s still well loved throughout the community.
That’s why the Messiah Lutheran Church hosted an event tonight called “A Year of Being Mayor.” They invited Coyne down to talk to the public about his time in office.
“It’s an opportunity to kind of let people know what the job is like and also to encourage people to run for public office. I just found it enjoyable. We’ve had a lot of issues this past year and accomplished a lot. That’s a good sense, to feel like you did something for the community,” said Coyne.
Even though Coyne said he didn’t expect many people to show up, extra chairs had to be brought in and some had to stand for the event. Coyne has served on and off the Marquette City Commission for over thirty years.
