Forgery charges land Ontonagon man in prison

ESCANABA — An Ontonagon man will spend up to seven years in prison after he accepted money for a construction job he did not complete.

Bruce Sever, 46, was sentenced in Delta County Circuit court Wednesday to between 2-6 years on a forgery charge and between 2-7 1/2 years on one count of false pretenses between $1,000-$20,000.  The sentences will run concurrently.  He was credited for 104 days served and was ordered to pay an undetermined amount of restitution.

Sever was also sentenced on a separate attempted larceny in a building case to 37 days in jail, but was credited for those days served.

He was arrested in June after he forged and cashed checks from the victim’s account.
