Forest Park celebrates Lady Trojans’ season

The Forest Park High School girls basketball team came up a few points short of winning a state championship on Saturday, but that didn’t stop the Crystal Falls community from celebrating the team’s many accomplishments.

Trojans fans gathered at Forest Park High School on Sunday to show their appreciation for what the team did this season. Everyone on the squad, from the coaches, to the players, and even the managers, were recognized for all of their hard work that enabled them to once again make it to the Breslin Center.

“Just being home here and seeing all of our fans again starts making the healing process a little faster,” said Jeff Syrjanen, the head coach of the Trojans. Forest Park fell in the Class ‘D’ championship game, 56-53 to Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy.

“I can see that the spirits are coming back to the kids. We are going to regroup and try to reflect back on what a wonderful year we had,” added Syrjanen.

“We have great memories to look back to as we get older,” said Trojans senior Sam Nylund. “Hopefully sometime in the near future we will be able to go back to the Breslin Center and watch future Lady Trojans do it.”

Forest Park finished the season with a 26-1 record.
