Foot Chase Injures State Trooper

A 30–year–old Hurley, Wisconsin man is in the Gogebic County Jail following a foot chase over the weekend.

It happened in the overnight hours of Sunday morning.

State Police from the Wakefield Post pulled over Brandon Calvetti for speeding shortly before 2:30am in Ironwood.

They say he was clocked going 50 in a 25-mile-per-hour zone.

Once he was stopped, he fled on foot towards a nearby wooded area.

One of the pursuing troopers tackled Calvetti just as he entered the woods.

The trooper and Calvetti were not aware of a steep embankment hidden by the woods which they both tumbled down.

The trooper suffered a knee injury and was unable to continue the pursuit.

Calvetti continued to run but was quickly arrested.

He faces several charges including felony resisting and obstructing police causing serious impairment, felony 3rd offense drunk driving and 3rd offense driving with a suspended license.

The suspect also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest on separate charges from other agencies.

The injured trooper is off-duty indefinitely stemming from the knee injury.
