Flood warning for Chocolay River

The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a flood warning for the Chocolay River near Harvey in Marquette County.

The flood has already engulfed the fishing and loading pier, while the parking still has some spots above water.  Weekend rain combined with temperatures in the sixties prompted the spillover.

Residents stopped by to get a glimpse at what appears to be the first true sign of spring.

Officials believe the river should fall below flood stage by tomorrow morning.  But, if the river continues to rise into the 12 and 13 foot range, the National Weather Service says to expect major flooding in the Timber Lane and Riverside Road area.

The advisory will stay in effect until tomorrow night with all eyes on that 10 foot flooding threshold.
