NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — It almost sounds comical to talk about flood waters when the temperatures are as far below freezing as they are, but the National Weather Service has put out a lakeshore flood advisory for Marquette, Alger and Luce counties.

It’s in effect from 7:00 tonight until 7:00 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters say north to northwest winds can be expected to gust up to 35 to 45 miles per hour through Wednesday night along the Lake Superior shoreline.

Those strong winds will build waves as high as 12 to 15 feet along the shoreline through tomorrow night. Beach erosion and minor flooding of low-lying areas is expected.

Freezing spray from the high waves may lead to ice buildup on roads and buildings near the shoreline.
