Flags at Half-Staff for Voakes Next Monday

The state of Michigan will honor fallen Upper Peninsula soldier Robert Voakes, Jr. next week.

Governor Rick Snyder has ordered that American flags throughout the state be lowered to half-staff next Monday in honor of Voakes.

The 21-year-old from L’Anse was one of four soldiers who died from an improvised explosive device on June 4th in Afghanistan.

He was laid to rest on Monday.

Voakes’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, as well as his posthumous promotion to Specialist First Class.
