First Taste of Winter Weather

Parts of the Upper Peninsula could see some winter weather as early as tonight.

The National Weather Service is saying that snow is coming to the U.P. this weekend.

Meteorologist Jonathan Voss says a storm front moving in from Canada should be dropping a few inches of the white stuff on the western U.P.

And although it’s unwanted by many of us, it isn’t that rare to see snow on the ground this early in the fall.

Voss says in 2000 and 2001, there was some snow on the ground by now.

Also, in 2006, the Marquette area had six inches of snowfall in one day in mid-October.

Even thought this isn’t expected to be a substantial amount of snow, it can still cause problems on roadways, so Voss says it’s important to take your time while traveling through areas affect by the snowfall.
