First Taste of Snow This Season

It hit the Keweenaw over the weekend, and it’s all over the place today…the first dose of the season of winter white.

The National Weather Service says it’s normal for us to have our first taste of snow right about now.

If anything, it’s a bit late in coming.

One of their forecasters in Negaunee Township says if we hold to the long-term norm, we should get it in the first week of October, not the second.

Greg Michels says it’s unusual is for us to have snow everywhere in the U.P. at once this early in the season.

But the ground is still warm enough that the flakes will melt quickly.

Michels says we still probably have a while to wait before the snow starts to accumulate up to 1 inch.

He says that should happen within the next week or 2.
