MARQUETTE — Summer is approaching slowly but surely – and with that comes great summer events. Including “The Greatest 4th in the North” Independence Day celebrations.
This year the Fireworks and Parade Committees have teamed up to plan the festivities on the Fourth. Thursday morning the committees discussed several ideas on how to benefit sponsors as they benefit the fireworks – a fun but costly event.
Fireworks Committee Chair Tom Baldini says, “It’s a $30,000 project for us, just the fireworks, but we have other things – such as insurance other promotions, things of that nature – so it comes to $35,000 to $40,000 a year.”
One idea was naming rights where the sponsor who contribute the most money would have their businesses name included with the title of the event.
The Marquette Rotary Club is already selling 50/50 raffle tickets, too, which it’s members predict will have a $12,000 cash prize.
This year the parade and fireworks are scheduled for Monday, July 4th, 2016. The back up day is on Tuesday, July 5th, 2016.
