Fire Does 6-Figure Damage to Vulcan Business

An early-morning fire in Vulcan destroys 2 buildings at a wood processing plant, including the main production building.

It happened at Sturgeon Millwork & Lumber at the Vulcan Industrial Park.

Someone passing by the area at about 3:30 Central time this morning called it in.

Norway firefighters got there a few minutes later.

But the 2 buildings were already engulfed in flames by then.

Fire officials say the wood being stored in 1 of the buildings helped fuel the blaze.

They’re not sure yet how it started.

The fire did more than $100,000 in damage.

That’s enough damage to require a state police fire marshal, and the marshal will be there tomorrow morning.

No one was hurt.
