Fire destroys storage building at Sault Ste. Marie business

SAULT STE. MARIE — Firefighters in Sault Ste. Marie have spent the day monitoring the scene of a Wednesday night fire to make sure the blaze didn’t re-ignite.

The fire started at 705 Johnson Street shortly after 10 p.m. The blaze destroyed a storage building at Soo Builders’ Supply. The large building was used to store lumber and other construction materials.

The Sault Fire Department called in mutual aid from Soo Township and Bruce Township. More than 20 firefighters responded to fight the heavy smoke and flames.

No one was hurt.
