Fire Destroys Harvey House

A 1-story house in Chocolay Township is considered a total loss after an early-morning fire.

It happened at 245 Silver Creek Road shortly after 3 this morning.

Mike Hamalainen and Anita Madosh were taken to Marquette General.

Hamalainen was treated and released.

There’s no word yet on how Madosh is doing.

The home suffered heavy smoke and water damage.

About 40 firefighters responded from Chocolay, Sands, Skandia and Marquette Townships.

They confined the flames to a front bedroom and portions of the attic and roof.

Insulation in the attic, and water freezing on equipment in the cold weather, caused the fire crews to have to stay on scene until about 7am.

A Marquette County Search & Rescue unit and the Salvation Army also helped the firefighters.

Hamalainen and Madosh will qualify for aid from the Marquette County Assistance Fund to help find temporary housing.
