Fire at MTU apartments

No one was hurt this morning in a fire at an apartment complex on the campus of Michigan Tech in Houghton.

The fire started shortly after 4 a.m. in a storage shed next to 2006 Woodmar Drive, one of the buildings of the Daniell Heights apartments.

The flames spread to the apartment building, and nine students had to evacuate.

The flames destroyed the storage shed and punched a hole through the roof of the apartment building.

The apartments also took major water damage from the firefighting effort.

There’s no word about the cause of the blaze, but Michigan Tech officials are calling it suspicious and a state fire investigator will be looking into it.
