UPDATE — 5:03 p.m. Wednesday November 4, 2015 (EDT)

Last night a kitchen fire left one local restaurant in need of repairs.

Around 7:15 p.m. a kitchen fire took place at the Great Hunan Chinese Restaurant in Marquette. According to the Marquette Township Fire Chief it was a cooking related accident.

Fire Chief Ron DeMarse says, “One of the employees was preparing a meal, and had shut off the burner, and when he turned the burner back on the burner flared, and it caught some oil in the pan on fire. The hood suppression system fired, but wasn’t able to suppress it completely. Employees put two more fire extinguishers on it – it still wasn’t able to put it out.”

The Chief says by the time they arrived on scene the fire had engulfed the hood area and had spread to the wall behind the cooking unit. Today the building manager told ABC-Ten that the restaurant will probably be closed for about a month while they complete the repairs.

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Township Fire Department responded to a structure fire this evening.
