Fifth annual Keweenaw Brewfest Saturday in Houghton

Fifth annual Keweenaw Brewfest Saturday in Houghton

One of the premiere events in Copper Country is taking place this weekend alongside Portage Lake in Houghton.

The 2014 Keweenaw Brewfest is Saturday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. at the East Houghton Waterfront Park.

The event is now in its fifth year, and it raises money for the Keweenaw Community Foundation.  This year the festival features more than 45 breweries and nearly 150 different beers.

Mike Rose, founder of the Keweenaw Brewfest, said a lot has changed since its first year,  including a dramatic increase in the number of craft beers available.

“Sierra Nevada, KBC, even Budweiser and the big names are putting out craft brews at this time,” he said. “Our event has gone from 650 people in the first year and has doubled in size in four years and we’re looking for an increase again this year also.”

Tickets are $30 if you purchase them Friday from the Keweenaw Brewing Company.  Admission is $40 at the gate.  Guests must be 21 or older to attend.
