Fiery Marquette Township Crash

Traffic was backed up along US-41 in Marquette Township this morning after a two-car accident that ended with one of the vehicles catching fire.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says it happened at about 9:30 this morning, when 84-year-old William Robey of Gwinn pulled out of the Lowes and GFS driveway into the path of another car.

The driver of a westbound 1997 Oldsmobile, 33-year-old Michael Lukakis of Marquette, hit Robey’s truck on the driver’s side.

Neither man was seriously injured, but the car caught fire just moments after the crash.

The Michigan State Police and Marquette Township Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

Robey was cited for failure to yield right of way.
