Federal Charges Issued in Harvey Bank Robbery
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Marquette is evaluating the case against the suspect in custody in connection with the armed robbery of the Northern Michigan Bank in Harvey six days ago.
A federal warrant has been issued against a 29-year-old U.P. man for the armed robbery of the Chocolay Branch October 12. The “armed bank robbery” arrest warrant was issued Monday, October 17, by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Marquette.
The man is in police custody in the state of Wyoming. Details have not yet been released as to the suspects’ name, hometown, capture or possible extradition.
The man’s vehicle was seen leaving the area of the Northern Michigan Bank and Trust immediately after the bank was robbed last Wednesday.
The man’s arrest by Wyoming authorities was based on a Michigan warrant charging the man with felony absconding. Wyoming authorities are said to have recovered a portion of the robbery proceeds from the man’s vehicle. The suspect’s wife has been cooperating with FBI investigators.
Police told ABC 10 the man pictured walked into the branch at the Gateway Plaza. He approached a teller and calmly instructed her to fill up a bag he put on the counter. She responded, “Yeah, right.” He then brandished a black pistol. The teller began putting money into the bag and then asked the man if he wanted more money. He responded, “No, that’s enough.”
Bank employees say the man left with an undisclosed amount of money.
