February 2nd Pasty Central Day in History
This was the first Ground Hog day in 1887, which was the same year Delaware Mine Closed in the Keweenaw Peninsula. On this day 1942, America was still reeling from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor less than two months earlier.

The panic that followed led to many erroneous sightings of the Japanese Fleet off the east coast, and fears that bombers would attack the northern US by way of the arctic circle. During the first week of February, U.S. Army personnel hastily mapped out positions for anti-aircraft guns and troops on the Canadian side of Soo Canal.
This friendly occupation of forces was formally coordinated with the Canadian Military and immigration six weeks later. Pasty Central Day in History, February 2nd.
