Brett Favre headed to Packers HOF in 2015

Brett Favre is a shoe–in to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible in 2016. But before he focuses on Canton, Favre will have his number retired by the Packers next summer.

The Packers and the Packers Hall of Fame made the announcement Monday afternoon. Favre was not able to make it there in person, but he was able to talk at the press conference on the phone.

“I always dreamed of playing pro football as a kid, but I had never dreamed about the hall of fames and jerseys being retired and things of that nature,” said Favre. “To be able to play 16 wonderful seasons in Green Bay is just an amazing honor.”

“I hear from fans all over the country. There are fans who became fans of football and Packer fans because they love Brett so much,” said Packers CEO Mark Murphy. “I think that’s a testament to just what a great and special player he was.”

Favre was the MVP of the NFL three years in a row from 1995-97.
