Fatal SUV-vs.-Bike Follow-Up

The Ishpeming man facing charges from a fatal accident this summer is scheduled to go to trial on November 8th.

47–year–old Rodney Stewart, Jr. will be tried for a moving violation causing death.

It’s a 1–year misdemeanor.

The accident happened on July 6th in front of the Holiday gas station on US–41 in Ishpeming.

Stewart pulled his Nissan Pathfinder out of the gas station into the path of a motorcycle.

36–year–old Samuel Maatta of Ely Township was riding the eastbound bike, and he died of his injuries.

Stewart was not hurt in the crash.

At the time of the accident, Ishpeming Police said Stewart did not yield the right of way to the motorcycle.
