Fatal Chippewa County Accident

State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post are investigating a car accident from last night in which a Chippewa County man died.

It happened shortly after 7 last night in Dafter Township.

Police say a 53-year-old Kincheloe man was driving east on 6 Mile Road when he ran a stop sign at the intersection with H-63.

A 44-year-old man from Brimley was heading south in his pickup truck on H-63 and could not avoid the car, hitting it in the intersection.

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department took both men to War Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The Kincheloe man died while on the way to Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey for further treatment.

The two drivers’ names are not available at this time.

Police say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, and they say both men were wearing their seat belts.

Neither man had any passengers.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department, the Soo Township Fire Department and U.S. Border Patrol agents also helped out at the scene.
