Fair to benefit Veterans
ISHPEMING– It can be difficult for those who served our country to transition back to civilian life.
Today one local event hoped to help them with that while keeping our veterans in the Upper Peninsula.
Around thirty organizations came to the Ishpeming Armory for a Veterans Career and Resource Fair. The fair had a number of different employers and resource providers to show veterans what was available to them, whether it is a job, education or another resource. Organizers of the fair hope that this could help keep the young men and women who served our country in the U–P, but more importantly send them a message.
“I think an event like this really shows the veterans that the community is engaged in assisting them, that employers are looking for them,” said Workforce Development Agency Project Management Specialist Stephen Gillotte, “that they’re really willing to hire veterans and they’re able to come in and meet with people that they perhaps didn’t know where available to them.”
Besides employers, service officers and State of Michigan Disabled Outreach program specialists were available for veterans to learn about the benefits available to them. Michigan Works was also present so veterans could speak to them about help finding employment.
