The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its September SmallWorks exhibition: Weaving Crossroads: New Fibers and Old Traditions by the Yarnwinders Fiber Guild of Marquette. This exhibit is composed of contemporary hand weaving using traditional and non-traditional fibers and various mediums.
The Yarnwinders have been a group for over 65 years that’s purpose is to promote the knowledge and practice of contemporary hand weaving. They have participated in demonstrations around Marquette including school presentations, community events, and fundraisers.
The September Main Gallery exhibition: Burden of Place by Russell Thorburn and Sons. Russell Thorburn, a poet-in-resident for 12 years in the Upper Peninsula Schools, and U.P. Poet Laureate, will have a collect of poetry on exhibit accompanied by photographs taken by his sons.
Christopher Thorburn is a Michigan State University student studying bio chemistry. Michael Thorburn is a Marquette Senior High school student; he is also a published poet.
The shows will be running from Sept. 1 to Sept. 28, and there will be an artist reception on Thursday, Sept. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m.
