Friends and Family,
I, along with the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters and Save the Wild U.P., am hosting an event for Yoopers to celebrate the beauty that is the Boundary Waters, discuss the threats of sulfide-ore copper mining, enjoy the company of like-minded local environmentalists and drink local beer. We will have a copy of the petition to sign, a Campaign staff member (and first time U.P. visitor!) will give a short presentation about the BWCA and proposed mines, and there will be some merchandise for sale by donation.
Some background on my involvement: For the past year I have been volunteering with the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters. The Campaign is leading the effort to ensure permanent protection for the Boundary Waters Wilderness, America’s most visited Wilderness and Minnesota’s crown jewel, from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining.
When I was a student at NMU working towards my degree in environmental conservation much of my studies focused on protesting the Eagle Mine in the U.P. Now living in Minneapolis, I’m fighting to protect my new home and a beautiful wilderness that I’ve grown to love.
I hope to see you at Ore Dock on August 15!
