The Historic Vista Theater/PAAC are preparing for the opening of their 2016 theatrical season with Rogers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma. Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council made their theatrical debut with this production in 1975. The 2016 run starts this Thursday. Showtimes for June 9-11 and 16-18 is 7:30 pm, with 2:00 pm matinees on Sundays June 12 & 19.

It seemed only fitting that for the 90th Anniversary of Operations at the Historic Vista Theater we open with this historically important, for both theatre as a whole and the Vista, musical. The cast is littered with award winning PAAC stars and fan favorites. The loveable Curly is played by 2015 PAAC “Newcomer of the Year” Alex Herman, opposite him the unstoppable Miss Upper Peninsula USA 2016, Eliisa Gladwell brings her award winning flair to Laurey. Julie Rexford offers her powerhouse voice as Aunt Eller. Athletic standout turned actor/singer Alec VanHorn is rapscallion Judd Fry, and Brady Skewis offers his comedy prowess as Will Parker chasing after Ado Annie Carnes, played by the Erin Potter. Vista crowd favorite Jacob Laitinen brings his flair to peddler Ali Hakim. PAAC 2015 “Actor of the Year” Erik Kuhnle and “Actress of the Year” Maggie Aartila, and other favorites such as; the Rexford family, Robert Smedman, Bethany Rudness, Kelsey Routhier, and more dot the cast as well. Also introducing Jana Alumbaugh as Gertie & Robert Kemp as Marshall Cord Ellam.

Since this is a revival of PAAC’s first production, as a very special part of this event we’ve invited cast members from the original 1975 production to all shows. Not only that the original cast and crew, is invited to join the current cast onstage for the last song of the show, a reprise of the song Oklahoma.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for HS Students & Under/Seniors and are available at the Historic Vista Theater Box Office at the Vista Theater Thrift Shop in Negaunee, Rare Earth Goods in Ishpeming, and in Marquette at both Snowbound Books and Gitche Gumee Cafe & Records located in the Village Shopping Center.
