The Marquette Symphony Orchestra’s gala 20th Anniversary Season will open on Saturday, September 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.
This concert features the return of Wei-Wei Le, one of the most applauded soloists ever to appear with the MSO. Ms. Le is an internationally-acclaimed artist who has been described by violin legend Yehudi Menuhin as “one of the most talented young musicians I have ever seen.” She will be playing Glazunov’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, a dazzling showpiece of musical virtuosity.
Also on the program are the “Dance of the Knights (Montagues and Capulets)” from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, an emotionally-charged work with strong horns and bass providing the foundation for an electric melodic line; and Mussorgsky’s majestic “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
In preparation for this anniversary season, the MSO polled its musicians and audience members, asking which pieces from the last 20 years they wanted to hear repeated. Every concert this season will include one or more of these favorites—in September, it will be “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
Tickets for the September 17 concert are now available on sale at NMU’s Central Ticket Office in the Barry Events Center as well as through www.nmu.edu/tickets or by phone at 906-227-1032. Tickets for the whole season are also available through the Central Ticket Office.
