Kids gaining independence used to be an almost universal rite of passage until the age of boomerang offspring. Butterflies are Free is a show that blends comedy and drama with a sensitive touch to tell the story of Don, an intelligent young blind man struggling to establish his independence in the world. Don takes an apartment by himself against the wishes of his overbearing mother. With the help of his free-spirited next door neighbor Jill, Don works to break free of his mother and prove that he can make it on his own. It was a Broadway play that was nominated for three Tony awards, features director Marty Martello and an incredible cast, floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. And it also, most significantly, touches the heart.
