Positioned in the heart of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, the Portage was the artery of America’s first great metal mining region. Join us to celebrate the culturally significant mine ruins to virtually untouched waterfalls, coastlines, and crags by paddling 10 miles from Breakers To Bridge to support the Keweenaw Land Trust’s mission of protecting land and water access for public use.
Breakers to Bridge Paddle Festival, a weekend of events centering around paddling in the Keweenaw, is planned for September 9-11, 2016. The event kicks off Friday evening with the 5Point Film On the Road at Breakers To Bridge at the Continental Fire Company in Houghton. On Saturday, a 10 Mile non-competitive timed paddle from Breakers to Bridge will take place followed by a celebration at Kestner Park in Houghton. On Sunday there will be numerous opportunities for families and individuals to get out on the water through interpretive paddles, clinics, demos and trips to various locations in the Keweenaw. The event is being planned by the Keweenaw Land Trust in partnership with Michigan Tech’s Outdoor Adventure Program. Registration is now open for all events at www.breakersbridge.com. Boat rental is available, but must be reserved at time of registration.
