Bards and Brews is a live creative reading held the third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Ore Dock Community Space. May’s readings will be by Carrie Shiper and Andrea Scarpino. The event is free and open to all ages.
Carrie Shipers’s poems have appeared in Crab Orchard Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, New England Review, North American Review, Prairie Schooner, The Southern Review, and other journals. She is the author of Ordinary Mourning (ABZ, 2010), Cause for Concern (Able Muse, 2015), and Family Resemblances (University of New Mexico, 2016) as well as two chapbooks.
Andrea Scarpino is the author of the poetry collections What the Willow Said as it Fell (Red Hen Press, 2016) and Once, Then (Red Hen Press, 2014), and the chapbook The Grove Behind (Finishing Line Press). She received a PhD in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University, and an MFA from The Ohio State University. She has published in numerous journals including The Cincinnati Review, Los Angeles Review, and Prairie Schooner, and she currently serves as Poet Laureate of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She lives in Marquette, MI.
