Escanaba police & Packers’ Davon House help out “Toys for Tots”

With the holidays fast approaching, Santa’s helpers in Escanaba are getting a jump start on helping less fortunate kids have a Christmas to remember.

Escanaba department of public safety, Walmart, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, firefighters and a Packers player got into the Christmas spirit with a toy drive.

If you dropped off a new toy at Walmart you got a signed autograph or have your picture taken with Davon House, Cornerback for the Green Bay Packers.

Walmart Store Manager, Christine Baur said she likes getting involved, “Because it’s a great thing to do for the community, we do a lot of fundraisers for our children and it’s just the right thing to do for the kids for Christmas.”

“It just makes you feel good as a person knowing that you are helping a child get a toy for Christmas. It’s just really good to be a part of that,” Walmart Assistant Store Manager, Robert Turchin said.

“At public safety we recognize the need in the community as we deal with all sorts of socio-economic differences in the community and there is a definite need out there for kids to smile on Christmas day,” said D/Sgt. Anthony LaPlant.

Devon House of the Green Bay Packers added “Anything to do for children I am there for them. I got a call that they were looking for a player, I told them I would be willing to drive up here and spend part of my bye-week up here and give my time.”

And more popular than Rudolph today, Officer Beg was on site welcoming gift givers. The line started early and the donations were plentiful as Escanaba residents gave a little but will be getting a lot. Toys for tots will donate the gifts to area kids to make sure that as many kids as possible have a reason to smile on Christmas Day.
