Escanaba Library’s summer reading program

ESCANABA — Every hero has a story and the Escanaba Library is looking for kids to be hero’s this summer by conquering reading as many books as they can with the kickoff of their summer reading program.

The “Every Hero has a story” summer reading program will highlight a local hero each week. From a combination of reading books and attending library programs, kids can earn points to be entered to win prizes at the end of the program.

7th grade Library Volunteer, Gia Economopoulos says “You should do it because it is something to keep your brain working during the summer so that when you go into the grade that you are going into that you are not brain dead after the summer and it’s just lots of fun. You can meet new people and when you are older you can even volunteer here like I do.

The program is run on a point system and kids can win prizes for accumulating the most points. Kids as young as four years old can participate by completing activities.
Along with reading books there are activities for older kids as well. They have everything from story time, lunch munch bunch, to knitting and even a robotics team coming in to present to them.
But opening up a book and reading remains the primary activity.
“I think it is cool because since technology has taken over our lives, it is cool to do something to get away from that, have an escape and that is what books are for,” continued Gia.

The summer reading program begins June 16th and runs until July 24. Visit www.escanabalibrary.org for more information.
