Escanaba hosts hospice symposium
The campus of Bay College in Escanaba hosted the 2nd Annual Upper Peninsula Hospice Symposium Wednesday morning.
About 25 people involved in hospice care from across the U.P. attended the symposium. Multiple speakers talked about new updates, such as new pain management techniques. There was also information from the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Michigan.
“We’re hoping individuals take back to their communities new ideas, new updates, have a renewed sense of setting goals and really being able to push hospice services in areas,” Erik Barnhart, from OSF Home Care said. “We have representatives from as far away as Baraga and the Keweenaw to Manistique and all points in between.”
“We can all learn from each other, and even though in some communities we’re competitors, we still share the common goal of providing hospice service,” Craig Chartier, Director of Marquette General Hospital Home Health and Hospice said.
The Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Michigan is recognizing the week of May 12th as Michigan Hospice Advocacy Week.
