Employers pack NMU construction management & technology job fair

MARQUETTE — Classes at Northern Michigan University have now been in session for a month, and that means the fall semester is nearing the halfway point. Seniors need to start looking ahead to the world after graduation, especially December graduates.

NMU Career Services, and the construction management and technology departments, are helping students stay on the right path. As part of that effort, the ninth annual Construction Management and Technology Career Fair took place this afternoon “specifically for students who are majoring in the programs down here, construction management, engineering-related,” NMU Career Services assistant director Steven LaFond said. “They’re here in the building taking classes; they can meet with the employers right here in the building.”

More than 25 different companies and organizations were on hand in the Jacobetti Complex. That’s up from last year, and it reflects improving job prospects in construction and technology fields.

“Of course, we do have a mix,” LaFond said. “We have a mix of the local ones also, but many employers fly in from Texas, New Jersey, (the) Chicago area, just for this event.”

NMU will also hold an annual fall job fair on October 8th, and that event is the most popular job fair of the year on campus.
