Ely Township Fire Leaves Family Homeless

Also just when the weekend was getting underway, a family in the west end of Marquette County is left homeless after a fire.

It happened at 9755 County Road 496 in Ely Township.

The call came in at about 10 Friday night.

Ishpeming Township volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze.

Chief Andy Lusardi says from what they can tell, the fire started somewhere in the basement.

It spread throughout the house before crews could get there.

No one was hurt.

The Juntila family who lived there is getting help from the Salvation Army and the Pigs-N-Heat Fire Relief Fund.

There’s no word on a definitive cause.

Chief Lusardi says they’re still investigating that, but he says it was likely electrical in nature.
