Eastern U.P. drug suspect gets prison time

NEWBERRY — A Newberry man arrested after UPSET East investigations into the sale and distribution of narcotics in late January was sentenced in Luce County Circuit Court Tuesday morning.

41-year-old Kenneth Collins was sentenced to three to ten years in prison on the charge of delivery of less than fifty grams of a controlled substance. He was also given seventeen months to ten years for the charge of controlled substance – counterfeit substance.

Collins will serve these terms concurrently in addition to having to pay nearly $1,000 in fines and costs. A second suspect in the investigation, 37-year-old Joy Derusha, had her sentencing rescheduled until July 7th.
