Early childhood education expo

Upper Peninsula teachers and other residents who work with very young children gathered in Marquette.

The U.P. Association for the Education of Young Children had its annual fall expo on Saturday, but there was no featured speaker giving a lecture. The guests formed small groups to discuss topics that matter to their work in the field.

“We have center employees here, we have program directors, we have daycare home providers, we have parents, we have public school folks,” UPAEYC vice president Judy Kitchen said. “We’re talking about curriculum, assessment, program planning, teaching ideas, working with challenging children, working with parents, parent partnerships.”

Everyone taking part in the expo also had a chance to visit area child care programs Saturday afternoon, both in centers and in private homes.
