Dumars out as president of the Pistons

The Detroit Pistons announced on Monday that Joe Dumars stepped down as the team’s president of basketball operations. Dumars will remain with the organization as an adviser.

Dumars has spent the last 15 years in the Pistons front office. He was named the NBA’s Executive of the Year in 2003. The Pistons won a NBA Championship in 2004. Detroit was in the Eastern Conference Finals every season between 2003-08.

The Pistons are 29-52 this season with one game remaining at Oklahoma City against the Thunder on Wednesday. Detroit will have missed the playoffs for five consecutive seasons.
