DNR determines winners of bear & elk hunting license drawings

The Michigan DNR has determined the winners of this year’s drawing for bear and elk hunting licenses. The agency had slightly more than 7,800 bear licenses and 100 elk licenses available in the respective drawings.

The results are posted online here; click on the ‘Check Your Drawing Results’ link. All of the elk licenses and most of the bear licenses have already been accounted for. However, 267 bear licenses are still available in the Bergland Management Unit, one of the DNR’s five bear management units in the U.P.

The remaining bear licenses will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone with a Lifetime Comprehensive License who wasn’t selected in the drawing can buy one starting at 10:00 a.m. next Monday, July 7th. Anyone else who applied for a license through the drawing but didn’t receive one can buy a license beginning on July 14th. Any hunter, including hunters who didn’t enter the drawing, can buy a leftover license starting on July 21st.

The DNR wants to remind hunters without a Lifetime Comprehensive License that their preference points will be reset to zero if they buy a leftover license.

There will be two elk hunting seasons in Michigan this year. One season will take place spanning three different periods of time, August 26th through the 29th, September 12th through the 15th and September 26th through the 29th. The second elk season will take place from December 6th through the 14th. The DNR says it may allow another elk season January 14th through the 18th if the harvest is insufficient to meet elk management goals.
