DNR begins selling Federal Duck Stamps online

Outdoor enthusiasts looking to hunt migratory waterfowl now have a new option for obtaining the proper license.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced Thursday that waterfowl hunters can now purchase the federal migratory bird hunting stamp, also known as the Federal Duck Stamp, from the DNR’s online E-License system. The E-license system allows Michigan residents to buy various hunting, fishing, ORV, and snowmobile licenses online, and the DNR hopes adding the Duck Stamp to its repertoire will make it more readily available and increase participation in this wetland conservation program. The new purchasing option is part of a partnership between the DNR and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Federal Duck Stamp Office.

The Federal Duck Stamp is required annually for all migratory waterfowl hunters age 16 and up. Buying the stamp via E-License will cost $17 and provide purchasers with a temporary electronic stamp that they can print or display on their mobile devices. Hunters can use the electronic stamp for up to 45 days while a physical stamp is delivered via mail.

Starting in late August, the temporary electronic stamps will also be made available at over 1,400 Michigan license sales outlets, and Federal Duck Stamps are also sold at some post offices and many national wildlife refuges. Stamps purchased in Michigan are valid throughout the nation.
