STAMBAUGH TONWSHIP — The body of a missing boater has been recovered after a four-day search.

Officials from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office say the body of Brian Ernest Mennecke, 56 of Ames, Iowa, was recovered by Michigan State Police divers around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Mennecke’s body was found in about 35 feet of water near the site where his unmanned boat crashed into a boat dock on Hagerman Lake in Stambaugh Township.

ABC 10 has confirmed that Mennecke was a professor at Iowa State University. According to his website, he taught and did research in the field of Management Information Systems.

No foul play is suspected. Officials say the investigation remains open.

The search for Mennecke began Saturday afternoon after a 911 caller notified authorities of the boat crash. Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by numerous local and state agencies in the recovery, and they are extending thanks and acknowledgement to all of those who helped.
