Distressed person Rescued from Kayak

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet post responded to a call of a distressed person in the water along Lakeshore Drive in Calumet Township Monday night.

Officials say they spoke with a resident who said he heard a man calling or help. The resident used binoculars and was able to locate a person in Lake Superior about three quarters of a mile off shore. The man was capsized in a kayak. Officials say the caller was able to signal a young woman traveling in another kayak near the shore and directed her to the victim. A second resident and the woman in the kayak were able to use a row boat to rescue the victim. Officials say the victim was safely taken to shore. He was treated by Mercy Ambulance Personnel.
