Detroit Nomads Visiting U.P.
Tourism is certainly one of the U.P.’s major industries, in just about any kind of weather.
And despite the cooler and rainy weather of the last few days, a unique group of visitors is exploring the area this week.
Nomads, Incorporated is a Detroit non–profit air travel club.
Today, the Nomads were in Munising, enjoying a pictured rocks boat cruise.
They fly all over the world in their own customized Boeing 727.
And they’ve been in the central U.P. since Sunday.
Ron Korthals says they’ve had a great time — a better one than they expected — and they’re thrilled with how friendly and welcoming the people they’ve met have been.
The conditions weren’t so great when they hit the water this morning:
It was overcast with a sprinkle of rain.
But the 60 or so Nomads members who made the trip didn’t seem to mind.
Korthals says the group has more than 4,000 members in all, and each member gets the opportunity to take every trip the group goes on.
He says the trips can range in length from 4 days to 4 weeks.
The nomads are flying out of Sawyer Airport at 5:30 tomorrow night, heading back to Detroit.
They say they’ll probably return to the U.P. sometime in the near future.
