ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP — Uninsured and under-insured residents from Marquette and Baraga counties are getting a chance for free oral health care services thanks to the Upper Peninsula Area Health Education Center.

UP–AHEC paired up with partners like the Western Marquette Health Foundation and Blue Cross–Blue Shield to assist adults in the two counties who can’t receive the insurance or services they need. The event will be held on April 23rd at the West Ishpeming Dental Clinic, where participants will receive services like cleanings, fillings, and extractions free of cost. The day also offers job shadowing opportunities for students interested in the health field.

“It reaches out in several ways. The oral health providers are volunteering and getting some volunteer hours that way, the students are getting shadowing and then the community is benefiting by getting people in need some services they need. We are on a waiting list right now so we are still taking calls. We’re taking up to forty–five for our first year,” said Cindy Noble, UP-AHEC Executive Director.

Transportation will be provided by Checker Transport as a way to ensure ultimate accessibility to the services. If you are interested in signing up for the waiting list, you can call UP-AHEC at (906) 227-1628. For more information about UP-AHEC programs, click here to visit their website.
