Delta County Foreclosures Rising

With nearly two months left in the calendar year, 2010 is shaping up to be a record year for foreclosures in Delta County.

According to the Delta County Register of Deeds, 76 sheriff’s deeds have been recorded.

There were 74 for the 2009 calendar year.

Officials say mortgage foreclosures in Delta County have been increasing since 2002.

Tax liens by state and federal agencies are also on the rise in Delta County.

There have been 297 so far in 2010, compared to 300 in 2009.

These include the state Department of the Treasury, the state unemployment agency and IRS liens.

Not surprisingly, the county has seen more people requesting records for filing for bankruptcy.

The Delta County Register of Deeds office functions as a records library for legal real estate documents.
