Deer Season Weekend Start Bill

If you’re a hunter, there may soon be some good news about deer season for you.

A downstate lawmaker is asking for firearm deer season to be moved so that it always starts on a weekend.

Last week, Republican State Rep Kevin Cotter of Mount Pleasant introduced a bill in the house to move opening day to the Saturday closest to November 15th.

The proposal would keep the length of the season at 16 days, just like it is now.

Cotter says it would help the state’s economy.

He says with more people being able to hunt, tourism and travel revenue will rise.

Cotter says studies show that a weekend opening day can increase sales of hunting licenses up to 10% for that year.
