Death in Iron Co. was suicide

Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies located the body of a missing Appleton Wisconsin man in rural Mastodon Township Tuesday evening. The deputies located the man in a wooded area south of Airport Road. The man was deceased from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.

The Appleton Police Department began the search for Joseph Kennedy, a 47-year-old Appleton man, when he failed to show for work Monday morning. On Tuesday evening, Deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office located Kennedy’s vehicle near the Iron County Airport. Iron County and Florence County Deputies located a lone set of foot prints and followed them to the location of the body.

Evidence Technicians from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office examined the crime scene and processed evidence. After examination, the incident was determined to be suicide – with no foul play.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, the Iron County Medical Examiner, and the Nash Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.
