DDA looking to improve Farmer’s Market

The Marquette Downtown Development authority met for their monthly meeting Thursday morning with multiple items on the agenda.

One of the main topics of discussion was the current state and future of the Farmers Market.  Board members were joined by several farmers and vendors from the market who spoke in front of the board about some concerns with the Saturday event.

“I think we had a very good exchange about the importance of the market to them, as well as some business owners that came and spoke about how the farmers market has been a very successful part of our Saturdays in downtown,” DDA Chair Christine Pesola said.  “At the end of the season we will be putting together a task force which will include a couple business owners, a couple consumers, a couple vendors and probably a couple board members from the DDA and we will take a look at the market and how we can improve it for next year.”

The DDA also discussed new events coming to the Marquette area.

An NMU Homecoming block party is in the works, as well as the finalization of Octoberfest that takes place on Baraga Avenue.  A minor change in the U.P. 200 sled dog race will take place.  The start and finish points will be in downtown Marquette.
