The issue of suicide prevention is the focus of an organized walk in Ishpeming this weekend. The “Out of the Darkness” community walk will be in support of families affected by suicide in the U.P.
A memorial balloon release and opening speech will be given by Ishpeming High School football head coach Jeff Olson, whose teenage son Daniel took his own life.
“For this event, the Great Lakes Recovery Centers has teamed up with the American Suicide Prevention for an even that raises awareness and raises funds for local suicide prevention activities and also research that helps the victims of suicide and their families through out the nation.” Foundation Coordinator at Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Andy Chosa said.
The “Out of the Darkness” walk is at the Al Quaal Recreation Area. Activities start at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m.
